Jaime Byrd is a US based contemporary artist with an Emmy nomination in film editing. She’s known for her landscape paintings which capture the emotional energy of nature from around the globe. Jaime’s paintings often transport the viewer to a familiar place both current and nostalgic through layers of bold colors and mysterious markings. She's is a life-long learner and constantly explores new designs for paintings inspired greatly by nature, peeling paint, colors of rust, and a fascination with light and water. Due to the amount of time it takes to create a painting and how quickly they are collected, Jaime currently only displays her available artwork in her large open spaced 2000 square-foot gallery located in the heart of the River Arts District of Asheville, NC. This allows her to personally meet collectors and connect them with herself and her artwork.

As an Emmy nominated film editor and background spanning over 18 years in the film industry, Jaime Byrd ingeniously utilizes footage she has captured during her global travels. Moreover, she incorporates an extensive library of audio and sound effects that she has been collecting for over a decade. The result is a mesmerizing synergy between moving images and paintings that harmoniously coexist.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My paintings are inspired by nature, travel, and the colors of Appalachia, Europe, Mexico, and SE Asia. I create my artwork using oil paint, pigments, wood ash, sand, and other materials. I choose these materials for their willingness to be transformed, both in form and texture, making it a perfect medium to allow me to explore and dig back into the layers revealing more color, light, and history beneath the top surfaces. It is also color and texture that I use as a way to provoke strong emotions. I use color to sometimes instill calmness, desire, or tension. Light and architecture play an important part in how I create a sense of place and hopefully it’s these places where a viewer can connect, discover, explore, and take on a journey.

Currently, I am exploring how new technology can be used to actively engage the viewer. I have been a storyteller for most of my life and my artwork is no different. My paintings can now tell an additional story with short movies components that I create with emotional soundscape designs, and other digital and animated elements.
