The Art of Recovery Opening Reception
- This event has passed.
December 7, 2024 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 5pm, for the opening of “The Art of Recovery: Hammers and Bags: Rising through the Layers of Tragedy Over Old Wounds.”
In the “Art of Recovery,” multigenerational artists present a creative response to tropical storm Helene with a gallery exhibit at Pink Dog Creative, 348 Depot Street, Asheville, NC. The exhibit acknowledges that even before the storm, many of Asheville’s historically Black communities were facing cultural erasure and erosion. It asks: how do we include all in the rebuilding process? The exhibit will run from Dec. 7 – Jan. 4, 2025.
The “Art of Recovery” brings together youth artists from local organizations Hood Huggers International, @umojahwj, pairing them with adult artists, curator @deejay_delight, DeWayne Barton, Millad Nooraei, Michael Hayes, @jennypickensart, Ant Grey of @a._d_photography, Elizabeth Lashay @slaythemic, and instructors Sara Sanders and Leslie Rosenberg at @unca_steam_studio. “The Art of Recovery” is a multimedia exhibit that includes photographs, sculpture using reclaimed materials, fiber arts, animation, painting, and sound installation, among others. The exhibit has received support from @acatheatre and an @artsasheville “Arts Build Community” Grant.
Gallery Hours: Saturday and Sunday from 1-3. Select Sundays will feature Bilingual (Spanish and English) interactive art pop-ups.
