OILS FOR BEGINNERS – FINDING YOUR VOICE with Susan Sinyai

Feeling comfortable and successful with oils ( as with any medium) is a process, so this workshop will benefit not only the aspiring beginner painter, but be of help to painters wanting to brush up on their skills.

We will begin with the basics, and there will be step by step demonstrations along the way, as each concept is explained. We will cover how to build layers, and what medium to use, and when. Colors – understanding them, and how to work with a limited palette to create a more cohesive painting – how using colors properly help to create a sense of depth a sense of mood. Brushes – what brushes to use, how to hold them properly and use them to create different strokes and textures. What is glazing, how and when is that done? How about scumbling? And, importantly, what are you trying to convey in your painting.

Day One will be given to experimenting with all the above and getting comfortable with the medium. Towards the end of the day, you will begin to plan your painting, using your own resource material. You can lay in the foundations of your painting, giving it time to dry and be ready to begin , and finish, on Day Two. The best part – you will be excited about starting your next painting!
